RCS Awarded HPC-Europa2 Fellowship

Dr Lee Margetts has been awarded an EU funded HPC-EUROPA2 fellowship for an extended visit to Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). The broad purpose of the visit will be to foster closer links between the BSC and the University of Manchester, particularly in the field of massively parallel scientific computing. The visit will help RCS open doors to EU funded collaborative research between the BSC and University of Manchester researchers.

During his stay, Dr Margetts will learn about the supercomputer simulators that BSC are using in the PRACE project. These are being used to evaluate different HPC technologies for a future European HPC Facility.

He will also be porting ParaFEM to Mare Nostrum in order to undertake some computationally intensive simulations of materials with complex architectures. This work will support an ongoing project being carried out in collaboration with Dr Paul Mummery and Professor Philip Withers in the School of Materials, University of Manchester.

The visit will take place from Monday 2nd March to Friday 27th March 2009.
